“Fables: Best of Aesop’s Fables” is well-written and apt for younger children. The prose is appropriately spare, and makes it easy to read aloud to young children, and is not too daunting for early readers. The book contains 27 classic tales of Aesop such as “The Hare and the Tortoise”, “The Fox and The Crow”, “The Boy who Cried Wolf”, “The Fox and The Grapes”, “The Lion and The Mouse”, and many more. I have a 5-year-old preschooler and was eager to share the timeless fables of Aesop with her, and this fit the bill nicely. She was able to follow the stories, and understand the moral behind each story. The illustrations are quite restrained though well-done (though I would have preferred brighter colors). I’d also recommend Aesop’s Fables (Stories for Young Children) which has beautiful illustrations.
